What on earth is "qualitative feedback"?

"...we ask over a thousand people to rate their experience every day and tell us how we can improve the content they see when they check Facebook — we call this our Feed Quality Panel.
...
We ask people to rate each story from one to five stars in response to the question “how much did you want to see this story in your News Feed?”
From this research using a representative sample of people, we are able to better understand which stories people would be interested in seeing near the top of their News Feed even if they choose not to click, like or comment on them — and use this information to make ranking changes."
So qualitative feedback is the new Facebook News Feed ranking factor, which takes into account which stories people would be interested in seeing near the top of their News Feed even if they choose not to click, like or comment on them.
As of today, qualitative feedback - along with your interactions with stories and people - will be used to determine which stories show up at the top of your FB News Feed.
How will this affect my Page? - that's, of course, the first things Page owners want to know.
To that, Facebook gives a very Googly answer:
"In general this update should not impact reach or referral traffic meaningfully for the majority of Pages; however, some Pages may see some increases in referral traffic, and some Pages may see some declines in referral traffic."
Bottom line is if Facebook shows your stories at the top of your fans' News Feed based on qualitative feedback (i.e. because FB determines that your fans might actually want to see content from your page), but your fans don't interact with your content enough, then FB will readjust to show fewer on your stories.
Seems like both factors - what people might want to see in their News Feed AND how well they interact with the stories - are equally important.
On the other hand... your fans won't be interacting with your stories if they don't see them in that News Feed to begin with.
